Baotou Rare Earth Research Institutewas established in 1960 under the instructions of Vice Premier Nie Rongzhen, and was officially listed and established in 1963 with the approval of the State Council, directly under the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In 1992, it was merged into Baotou Iron and Steel Rare Earth Company (now Baotou Group Corporation), and in 2007, it was merged into Baotou Rare Earth (now Northern Rare Earth).
As the largest comprehensive rare earth research and development institution in the country, the Rare Earth Institute has always been committed to the comprehensive development and utilization of rare earth resources. Its research focuses on rare earth metallurgy, environmental protection, new rare earth functional materials and their applications in high-tech fields, rare earth product analysis and testing, and rare earth industry technology information services.
